Low Power, Long Battery Life

Battery lifetimes are expected to be more than five years. The End-node hardware is in a deep sleep, most of the time, drawing nA currents. Application requirements defining the amount of time the End-node will sleep are programmed into the End-node. For example, temperature, soil moisture and illuminance measurements are made in 10 minute intervals and trasmitted for analysis.

Factors contributing to battery longevity

  • Operating mode
    • Class A (Aloha)
    • Class B (Beacon)
    • Class C (Continuous)
  • Long deep sleep time intervals
  • Low data rates, 250 bps
