Long Range Connectivity

Long Range Connectivity is greatly enhanced with minimal or no obstructions between Gateways and End-nodes. In a rural setting, connectivity will be approximately 25 km. Dense urban settings with many buildings results in connectivity of 1 km to 3 km. Informal tests performed in the Netherlands, with an End-node attached to a helium balloon, flown to a height over 30 km, connected to a Gateway in Poland, almost 700 km away.

Connectivity best practices

  • Mount Gateway antenna as high as practical
  • Locate the Gateway away from obstructions such as buildings, radio towers
  • Use a high quality antenna preferably with a gain > 3 dBi to 6 dBi
  • Ensure all local codes are followed, including antenna lightning protection
